There are three Catholic schools in the municipality of Aalsmeer, the Jozefschool in the Gerberastraat in Aalsmeer, the Antoniusschool in Kudelstaart and de Oosteinder in the district Oosteinder/Nieuw Oosteinde.
Your child is most welcome at the Jozefschool. Unfortunately we can only place a maximum of 56 pupils in each grade (including 4 calamity places). We first invite parents of our future pupils for a tour through our school. We will contact you if you fill in our provisional registration form. In the meantime you can follow a virtual tour on our contact page.
Are you looking to transfer your kid(s) from another school to us? Please contact us first by phone so we can discuss the posibilities.
“At Jozefschool, we work together where possible and adapt as needed to nurture the head, heart, and hand.”
At Jozefschool, students, parents/guardians, and staff feel welcomed. We collaboratively foster a secure environment where everyone has faith in themselves and others, paving the way for successful development. In our enriching learning environment, we accentuate the positive, continuously inspiring one another.
The Jozefschool boasts a distinctive architecture, complemented by inviting schoolyards that promote communal play. Our premises include a genuine forest for exploration and various gardens where children can immerse themselves in nature’s lessons. As a Catholic school, we provide students with insights into Catholic traditions and celebrations.
Our school focuses on both cognitive growth and socio-emotional development. We prioritize teaching students to adopt a caring and responsible demeanor. It’s essential for them to interact harmoniously, treat each other with dignity, learn conflict resolution, and foster mutual respect.
Head – cognitive
Heart – social emotional
Hand – creative and sportive
We are a Catholic institution deeply influenced by Jewish-Christian traditions. We uphold respect for diverse cultural and philosophical foundations. Within our school’s walls, we foster mutual belief and trust. We ensure that students have the room to value others, recognize their own worth, and explore their personal beliefs.
Through our focus on social-emotional training, we cultivate an atmosphere where children master collaboration, manage emotions, remain attuned to their peers, and unearth their innate talents. Key pillars of this nurturing environment include self-confidence, independence, self-awareness, initiative, and introspection.
In our school, we enlighten students on pertinent social issues, including integration, environmental consciousness, anti-discrimination, human rights, and sustainability. We offer an invigorating learning atmosphere that focuses on imparting knowledge and uncovering talents within a secure pedagogical framework. This empowers children to delve into exploration, gain firsthand experiences, and achieve their fullest potential.
At the heart of our educational approach are our core beliefs. Classroom observations, discussions with students, evaluations of test outcomes, collaborations with colleagues, and parent meetings all contribute to refining our instructional techniques. We uniformly implement learning strategies, emphasizing the Explicit Direct Instruction model (EDI). Our classroom instruction is results-driven, and we encourage students to actively participate in their personal growth.
Throughout the school year, we bridge theory with real-world experiences by organizing catechesis activities and projects in which all students partake. By observing church celebrations at the neighboring Catholic church, we aim to foster a sense of community among our students. We teach children to care for and help one another in a tolerant and respectful manner, guided by our established norms and values. We use art, culture, nature, sports and global studies to help children explore themselves, their unique talents and the world around them.
We utilize a variety of learning techniques, ensuring a dynamic mix in our approach. Central to our methods are peer learning, fostering collaboration, nurturing independence, and teaching task management. We encourage embracing flexibility and thinking in terms of possibilities, always prioritizing the child’s best interests. Moreover, we allow students to engage their senses, integrating the broader environment and incorporating diverse educational excursions.
For students who excel beyond the foundational curriculum, we provide an enriched program. Opportunities also exist for students to partake in extracurricular courses, such as Acadin project work, Spanish, and our ‘Pas’ sessions — a weekly advanced learning module alongside other gifted peers. For those who exhibit practical talents, we’ve established the ‘Do-group’. This group embarks on weekly excursions to local businesses, learning hands-on essentials directly on-site. Should any student require additional assistance, our team of teaching assistants and specialists is ready to offer support and guidance. Moreover, we leverage technology to enhance and support the teaching methodologies adopted in our institution.
Learning extends beyond the school environment, which is why we deeply value parental involvement and partnership. Clear communication and a straightforward organizational structure set the foundation for our shared expectations. To achieve optimal collaboration, we rely on mutual trust, shared engagement, and open, candid communication. Our collaboration with partners in the educational community and the local government supports us in providing inclusive education for all students.
Our staff members are professionals with knowledge and experience. We prioritize personal and team development, making all staff members responsible for achieving organizational goals.
As a team, we’re committed to refining our expertise. We frequently collaborate in lesson planning, observe fellow educators in action to glean insights, and actively exchange feedback. This collaborative spirit of learning from and with one another drives our education standards upward. Our faculty includes specialists in gymnastics, visual arts, and music. Additionally, we have experts in specific academic domains such as reading, grammar, mathematics, and behavioral studies. These specialists guide and bolster the wider teaching team through their insights and expertise. Together with our leadership team, they shape our school’s policies.
Being socially committed, we impart our pedagogical wisdom to the next generation of educators, including interns and those transitioning into the teaching profession. We remain accountable to our school’s board, the ‘samenwerkingsverband,’ the local council, the educational inspection body, and most importantly, our students’ parents.
Our approach is rooted in thorough investigation, aligning closely with current educational and societal trends. We consistently evaluate our curriculum and teaching methods, making necessary adjustments to best serve our students. Our foremost commitment is to ensure every child has equal opportunities, empowering them to harness their unique abilities and talents. As society evolves rapidly, it’s imperative for educational institutions like ours to champion equality and foster responsible citizenship.
